QUEENS — Workers digging a trench for a gas line in front of a house in Richmond Hill Tuesday found several bone fragments, which police said could be human remains.

The workers were digging a 3-foot deep trench to install a National Grid gas line in front of a house on 108th Street, near Jamaica Ave., across the street from P.S. 90, around 11:15 a.m. when they noticed five bone fragments. They stopped working and called the police.

The owner of the house told investigators that he had lived there for about two decades and knew nothing about the bones, which police said, were about six-inches long.

Police said they were also not aware of any burial grounds that may have existed in the area.

The remains will now be investigated by the Medical Examiner.

The Medical Examiner’s office did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
