Cyclist Hit by SUV in Washington Heights

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A bike rider was hospitalized Monday afternoon after getting hit by an SUV at West 170th Street and Broadway, witnesses and officials said.

The bicyclist was traveling south on Broadway about 3:16 p.m. when a black Toyota 4Runner traveling north made a U-turn to get into a parking space on the southbound side of the street and hit him, a witness said.

Witnesses at the scene said the victim was a local delivery man on a bicycle.

He was conscious and talking after the accident, but complaining about a pain in his knee, witnesses said. He was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, according to the FDNY.

The SUV remained on the scene for some time, and the driver declined to comment before leaving.

FDNY officials had no word on the bike rider's condition. It was unclear if the driver was ticketed or faced any charges.

Police had no information about the collision.
