MANHATTAN — A 59-year-old East Harlem woman fought off a man who climbed through her window while she slept and tried to rape her, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was lying in bed at her apartment on East 106th Street about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, when the man grabbed her ankle and tried to pull down her pajama pants, according to the NYPD.

The woman shrieked, sending her attacker running back through the open window in her living room, police said.

The suspect is described as about 25 years old, weighing 220 pounds and standing 5-foot-6, police said. He was wearing khaki pants and similarly colored T-shirt, they added. A sketch of him has been released.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
