HUNTERS POINT — Summer may be winding down, but you can still enjoy some seasonal eats in Queens this week: Alobar's "Tomato Fest" kicks off Thursday with a five course tasting menu based around the savory fruit.

The Long Island City eatery will offer the special menu for three days during dinner service, with some of the proceeds going to an anti-hunger organization, according to owner Jeff Blath.

"All five courses have tomatoes somewhere in there as a highlight," he said. "It's kind of the end of peak tomato season right now, so we've got some good stuff."

Blath said the eatery isn't publicizing a set menu before the event as the chef will be basing his courses on what's in the market that day and options may change.

"We want to keep it fresh," he said. "It's going to just be creative."

This is the second time the restaurant has celebrated the tomato — the first "Tomato Fest" was held back in 2012. This year the five course tasting meal costs $48, with $10 from each sale going to No Kid Hungry, an organization that works to end child hunger.

Tomato Fest will kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday and will feature a live jazz band.
