Man Hit in Head With Bottle of Champagne After Confronting Groper: Police

MEATPACKING DISTRICT — A clubgoer was walloped in the head with a bottle of Champagne after he confronted a man who was harassing a woman on the dance floor at Meatpacking District club The Raven, police said.

The 26-year-old victim was at the 55 Gansevoort St. club about 2:20 a.m. on Aug. 31, and became upset when he saw Guy Gubani, 23, grope a woman on the dance floor, police said.

But when the good Samaritan confronted Gubani, he retaliated by hitting him over the head with a champagne bottle. Then, Joshua Sharon, 23, punched the victim in the face, police said.

The victim was left with a lump on his head and a gash on his upper lip, police said.

Gubani was charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Sharon was charged with misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest. Their attorneys could not immediately be reached for comment.

Other recent incidents in the 6th Precinct include:

► A man was stabbed in the face near New York University after an argument, police said.

Police said the 69-year-old victim approached Brigilio Sese, 60, at LaGuardia Place and Bleecker Street, across the street from the Morton Williams supermarket, about 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 3 about some missing property. The fight escalated and Sese swung at the victim with an unidentified weapon, stabbing him in the face, police said. 

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries, according to the FDNY.

Sese was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, assault and attempted assault.

His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

► Officers discovered marijuana and a razor blade in the underwear of a man they stopped for drinking in public, police said.

Police said they saw Robert Knowles, 31, drinking from an open container of alcohol at West Fourth Street and Sixth Avenue about 1 a.m. on Sept. 6.

They patted Knowles down and found six bags of marijuana and one box cutter razor in his underwear, police said. Knowles was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of marijuana and consumption of alcohol in a public place.

Knowles' attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

► A man held up a West Village wine shop at gunpoint, police said.

Police said Manfred Bernier, 45, walked into Uncorked Wine Co. at 98 Christopher St. at 8:58 p.m. on Sept. 25 and pulled out a gun.

Bernier demanded cash from the store employee, who handed over $300, police said.

Police arrested Bernier and charged him with robbery. They did not recover the money.

Information on Bernier's attorney was not immediately available. Uncorked declined to comment.

► A 26-year-old woman was attacked by two men who stole her bag on West 10th Street, police said.

Police said the woman was walking west on West 10th Street about 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 30 when two men punched her, pushed her to the ground and ripped her pocketbook off her shoulder.

The men ran north on Greenwich Street, leaving the victim with a swollen, painful face and left knee, police said.

Police found James Gillespie, 25, and Christopher Guzman, 20, at Greenwich Street and Christopher Street with the woman's $100 black purse, containing her $500 iPhone 5S, a U.S. passport, $300 worth of makeup, a Wells Fargo debit card and $80 in cash, police said.

Gillespie and Guzman were charged with three counts of felony robbery. Information on their attorneys was not immediately available.
