BROOKLYN — A group of five thieves fatally stabbed a 23-year-old man and wounded his brother in Bedford-Stuyvesant Sunday morning, police said.

The five were stealing cellphones from Juan Carlos Luna-Juarez and his brother, 24, whose name was not released, about 2 a.m. outside 887 Myrtle Ave., near Tompkins Avenue, when the confrontation turned violent, an NYPD spokesman said.

Luna-Juarez, who lived only two blocks away on Throop Avenue, was repeatedly stabbed in the chest and his brother was stabbed in his left shoulder, police said. They were both taken to Kings County Hospital, where the younger man was pronounced dead.

The older brother was in stable condition, police said.

Police arrested Miguel Bello, 31, Carmello Bello, 25, Celestino Martinez, 22, Martin Carillo, 33, and Javier Ortiz, 33, at the scene, officials said.

They face charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Miguel Bello had been arrested in 2005 for murder, an NYPD spokesman said.
