BUSHWICK — Locals looking to strut their stuff in celebration of fashion week have the chance in Bushwick Fashion Weekend's first community parade Saturday.

The Living Gallery, 1094 Broadway, has been hosting Bushwick Fashion Weekend for two years as a local, community-building alternative to New York Fashion week, said gallery owner Nyssa Frank, 29.

This Saturday will be the first time they take the idea to the streets. Anybody can show up to join, and Frank hopes that more people will tag along once they see the parade walk by on the sidewalks.

"I really wanted it to be outside of the gallery, getting people on the streets to join us, and have it be a living, interactive celebration," Frank said.

The event will start at The Living Gallery at 1 p.m. and will end at Maria Hernandez Park at 5 p.m. Along the way, the parade will be stopping to hang out at vintage stores like Noveau Vieux, 17 Thames, and Urban Jungle, 118 Knickerbocker Ave. and coffee shops and bars, including Express Yourself Barista Bar, 82 Central Ave., and Happyfun Hideaway, 1211 Myrtle Ave.

Folks can also bring their pets and wear whatever they want — whether it be a costume, a local designer, a self-made design or just their favorite outfit.

Already, people plan to pump up the celebration by bringing a trumpet and balloons, Frank said.

"It's open to anything," she said.
