CROWN HEIGHTS — A man was gunned down and three others injured during a shooting on Empire Boulevard early Monday, police said.

Derek Gooding, 26, fired into a crowd shortly after 3:30 a.m. at 290 Empire Blvd., between Rogers and Nostrand avenues, where 55-year-old Michael Sampson was struck in the torso and died at the scene, the NYPD said.

A 22-year-old man was hit in the leg and a 22-year-old woman was struck in the ankle during the deadly shooting. Both were taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, police said.

A bullet also flew through the window of an unmarked police van in the area, shattering glass onto a detective who was inside at the time, the NYPD said. The detective was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Gooding was charged with murder, assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. A 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun was recovered after the shooting, police said.

The investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday morning, police said.
