QUEENS — Jamaica is kicking off the school year with a fashion show for children and organizers are looking for young models to show off the styles.
During the event, slated for Saturday, Sept. 6 at Rufus King Park, stores on Jamaica Avenue will present their latest "back-to-school" clothing styles.
Among the retailers that will be showcasing their offerings will be Cookie's The Kids Department Store, GAP Outlet, Old Navy, Claire's and K&G, according to the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District, which is organizing the event.

The BID, which is looking for young models, ages 6-18, for the event, has been organizing Jamaica Fashion Show for the past three years, but this is the first time the group is holding a show with the focus on children's fashion, said Valerie Stevens of the BID.
"The purpose of the event is to continuously promote downtown Jamaica as a fashion and shopping destination," Stevens said. "We also want to bring the community together and provide positive entertainment in downtown Jamaica."
During the show, which will feature live music and dance performances, participants will also receive free back-to-school supplies (the number of supplies is limited).
Casting for the event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 90-50 Parsons Blvd., Suite 402. For more information, email info@jamaicacenter.org or call (718) 526-2422 ext. 100.
