QUEENS — Artists will soon get a chance to showcase their work during an upcoming fair in Kew Gardens, the organizers said.

During the event, scheduled for Oct. 5, artists will get a spot in Kew Gardens Cinemas Park on Austin Street, where they will get to present and sell their work, whether they are painters, potters or photographers, the organizers said.

“We feel there are so many artists here,” said Carol Lacks, one of the organizers. “So we try to give people an opportunity to show their work.”

Those interested in participating should apply by Sept. 5. The organizers said they will choose about 25 artists, hoping to select participants making art in a variety of disciplines.

Lacks said that other neighborhoods in Queens, such as Long Island City, have many art events which allow artists to present their talent. “But we don’t have a lot of that here,” she said about Kew Gardens.

The fair will be organized for the second time this year as part of the Kew Gardens Community Arts Day, which will also feature arts and crafts for children, sidewalk chalk drawing, art exhibits and demonstrations, as well as an outdoor music show.

The fair will take place on Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (rain date is Oct. 19). For a fee of $30, a portion of which will be donated to the Queens Council on the Arts, participating artists will get a 5 foot by 6 foot space to display and sell their work.
