Man Attacked With Hammer at Hotel Construction Site, Police Say

FLATIRON — One man walloped another with a hammer at the construction site of the Clock Tower Edition Hotel last week, NYPD said.

Gregory Walters, 41, was arguing with the victim at 5 Madison Ave. at about 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 18 when the fight escalated and Walters struck him in the head with a hammer, according to police.

The victim's head was left bruised and swollen, and he had severe pain in his neck, according the criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, police said.

Walters was charged with assault. He is due back in court on Dec. 4.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The hotel, which is set to open in 2015, did not respond to a request for comment.

Other recent crimes that occurred in the 13th Precinct include:

► A worker at a Flatiron rooftop bar and restaurant swiped $11,000 worth of jewelry from a UPS box, police said.

Richard Rodriguez, 36, opened the UPS box at 230 Fifth, at 230 Fifth Ave., and took all the jewelry that was inside at about 1 p.m. on Aug. 19, police said.

He was charged with grand larceny. Information regarding his attorney was not immediately available.
