MOTT HAVEN — A serial thief tried to snatch a purse from a baby stroller in the South Bronx, one of a whirlwind of robberies and thefts that occurred on a single corner last week.

All of the incidents happened on Brown Place and East 136th Street in Mott Haven during a two-hour period on the morning of Aug. 15, police said.

The suspect initially struck around 5:20 a.m., when he approached his first victim — a 26-year-old woman — grabbed her from behind, held an unknown object to her side and demanded her property, according to the NYPD.

He fled the scene with the victim's cellphone and ATM card, police noted.

A little more than two hours later, around 7:30 a.m., the suspect struck again in the same area, this time targeting a 28-year-old woman with her baby in a stroller, according to the NYPD.

The suspect came up to her from behind, grabbed her by the waist, put a black object to her side and demanded her property, police said.

She handed over her watch but did not hand over her purse, which was underneath the baby stroller, police added.

Instead, the victim held onto the bag and screamed for help, and the thief eventually let go when he noticed a passerby, police said.

However, the brazen suspect then turned his attention the passerby and snatched the victim's cellphone from her hand and fled, according to the NYPD.

Officers described the suspect as standing 5-foot-8 and wearing a black Dallas Cowboys baseball hat, blue faded jeans, black sneakers with white soles, a gray shirt and sunglasses.
