MOTT HAVEN — A 20-year-old woman was nearly raped on Saturday by a man wielding a box cutter, police said.

The suspect had been following the woman about 2 a.m. on East 149th Street down Jackson Avenue and St. Mary's Park on July 26 when he took out a box cutter and attacked her, according to the NYPD.

He pulled on the victim's shirt and underwear, threw her to the ground and got on top of her, but fled after she screamed for help, police said.

The suspect is a thin, 20 to 25-year-old man between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7 who was last seen wearing a hat, jean shorts, black sneakers and a long sleeved white shirt with a design on the front and dark sleeves, according to police.

Anyone with information about this is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
