Monday, July 28

Start your week at Bushwick bar Miles' new twist on happy hour: mac & cheese Mondays. Purchase any draft beer, cocktail or glass of wine between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and enjoy a free cheesy pasta entry on the house. 101 Wilson Avenue between Starr and Troutman, Brooklyn.

Tuesday, July 29

Every Tuesday night this summer, the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance presents a free family game night featuring Twister, Dominoes, Checkers and more. Admission is free and registration is not required. At the Northwest Lawn in Marcus Garvey Park, near West 124th Street and Mount Morris Parkway, Harlem. 6 p.m. until dark.

Wednesday, July 30

Havana-born pianist and flautist Oriente Lopez, whose resumé includes collaborations with Regina Carter and Paul Simon, will bring his Latin quintet to Terraza 7. 40-19 Gleane Street between Elmhurst and Jackson Heights, 8 p.m. $7 cover for mezzanine seating.

Over in the Bronx, Gambian musician Salieu Suso and nephew Malang Jobarteh will play the kora as the sun sets over the Great Lawn at Wave Hill. The kora, a 21-string bridge harp instrument, is traditionally played in solo performances and to accompany songs and stories. 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Free with park admission. Wave Hill is located on West 249th Street; detailed information on how to get there from Manhattan and elsewhere is available here.

The inline skating organization that claims to be the city's largest is hosting its weekly meetup at at the south end of Union Square Park. Wednesday Night Skaters will begin gathering around 7:45 p.m. and take off at 8 p.m on a secret route throughout the city, returning to Union Square around 10 p.m. Routes average approximately twelve miles.

Helmets and wristguards are required; full protective gear and high-visibility clothing are recommended. In case of rain, other activities will be substituted for the skate route: check the Facebook page for details. No charge, novices welcome. Skate at your own risk.

Thursday, July 31

"Here and Elsewhere," which opened at the New Museum in mid-July, presents a look at the contemporary Arab world through works from more than forty-five artists, including many making their New York debut. More than fifteen countries are represented. 235 Bowery. The Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays.

Still a fan of snail mail? Thank you notes overdue? Join artist and printmaker Christine Garvey for a "make your own stationery workshop" at DIY hub Brooklyn Brainery. In one three-hour evening session, you'll design and carve your own handmade letterhead stamps and develop your stenciling technique. Class price is $70 and includes materials, including a linoleum cutter set and carving blades. Students should bring 10-15 small photocopies (not printouts) — about 4" x 5" each — of black and white images they'd like to use for their letterhead. 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Space is limited and registration is required. 190 Underhill Avenue, Prospect Heights.
