INWOOD — Now you can drink your Frappucino al fresco.

The Starbucks at the corner of Dyckman Street and Broadway added outdoor seating this week, despite the local community board recommending the city deny its bid for a sidewalk cafe.

The mega-chain's six tables and 12 seats are set up along the store's Dyckman Street side, making it the fourth sidewalk cafe on the stretch between Broadway and Seaman Avenue.

The Department of Consumer Affairs OK'd the setup after Community Board 12's chairman George Fernandez wrote to DCA asking that it not be approved because no one from Starbucks appeared before the board to discuss the application.

CB12’s policy is to deny any application for which the applicant does not appear before the board.

The tables were out on Tuesday for a trial run with several customers making use of the new outdoor space.

“I was excited because it gets really crowded inside sometimes,” said Danyce Bonebrake, 35. “This is such a nice street. It’s nice to have more places to sit outside.”

A Starbucks employee said that more people seem to utilize the space in the early evening when the sun is less intense.

Starbucks is still determining how many hours the sidewalk tables will be available each day, according to another employee.

The sidewalk café opens on a permanent basis Friday.
