Man Steals Stuy Town Golf Cart and Takes it for Joy Ride, Police Say

STUYVESANT TOWN — A man was busted for stealing a Stuyvesant Town golf cart and taking it on a joy ride down 20th Street, crashing into several cars along the way, NYPD officials said.

Shadi Torres, 20, hopped in a golf cart that was left unattended in front of 601 E. 20th St. near the East River at 11:10 p.m. July 8 and then drove away along East 20th Street, police said.

Torres damaged three cars and the golf cart before coming to a stop, police said.

The cart is used by Stuy Town workers to transport equipment throughout the complex, said Brian Moriarty, a spokesman for CW Capital, the complex's owner.

Torres was charged with grand larceny auto, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

He is due back in court on July 17. Information regarding his attorney was not immediately available.

Other notable crimes that occurred in the 13th Precinct recently include:

► A man was arrested after he flung a woman against a UPS truck and tried to kiss her in front of 161 W. 15th St. near Seventh Avenue, police said.

Duraiarasan Arivudai, 28, ran up to the victim on the sidewalk, pushed her against the truck, grabbed her head and tried to kiss her at about 7 p.m. on July 7, police said.

The woman told police she does not know Arivudai, and he hurt her head when he slammed her into the truck, police said.

Arivudai was charged with harassment, assault and forcible touching.

The court ordered that he undergo a psychiatric exam, according to online court records.

He is due back in court on July 23. His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

► A man was busted for exposing himself on a sidewalk in front of 301 E. 23rd St. near Second Avenue, police said.

Police spotted 33-year-old Jason Ecnatiowicz flashing the public on the sidewalk at 4:46 p.m. on July 8, police said.

After officers searched him, they found a pipe with an unknown drug residue and an unlabeled bottle of pills, police said.

He was charged with public lewdness and possession of a controlled substance.

Information regarding his attorney was not immediately available.
