CROWN HEIGHTS — A man was found shot to death inside the kitchen of his fourth-floor apartment on Prospect Place Monday morning, neighbors and officials said.

The man in his 30s, whose name was not immediately released, was found by a neighbor shortly after 8 a.m. inside 926 Prospect Place, near New York Avenue, said neighbors and the NYPD.

The man who discovered the body, Kevin, 43, was about to walk his son to school when he got word that third-floor tenants heard gunshots from an apartment on the floor above some time overnight. Kevin left his son in the lobby, walked up to the fourth floor and started banging on the victim's apartment.

"I was knocking on the door yelling, 'You alright?' When I was banging on the door, I saw it wasn't locked so I pushed it open," Kevin said.

The apartment looked undisturbed with its stereo and everything else still in its place, Kevin said.

"I looked around the kitchen and just saw feet sticking out and blood all over the floor. He had on black sneakers and a white jogging suit. It spooked me. I walked pretty fast out of there and called 911," Kevin said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

"He never bothered anybody. He was never a threat. I don't know why anyone would kill him," said Kevin, who remembered his neighbor often listening to Jamaican music.

Police officials did not know the circumstnaces that led to the fatal shooting or if the apartment showed signs of forced entry.

No arrests had been made and they were still investigating, they said.
