OZONE PARK — A former NYPD officer shot and killed his wife while the couple's two children were inside on Saturday morning, according to police and news reports.

Police found Jessica Mera-Canty, 40, shot several times in the torso at the family's home at 97-44 104th St., after responding to a 911 call.

According to the New York Times, the children, a boy, 8, and girl, 5, ran outside to find help, and a neighbor took them to a local bodega where they hid from their father.

Police arrested Kevin Canty, 43, soon after, in the vicinity of the crime scene. He was charged Sunday with murder and criminal use of a firearm.

Canty worked for the NYPD in the transit bureau from 2008 to 2013, the Times reported. Police could not say if the children had witnessed the shooting, police said.
