RED HOOK — Spiked punch, taffeta gowns and Flock of Seagulls hairstyles can only mean one thing — prom is back.

Neighborhood dance studio and school Cora Dance will host Red Hook’s grown-up prom May 3 to raise funds that will benefit classes, programs and workshops.

The '80s-themed prom will feature a stylist from Elements Hair Studio who will be teasing out hairdos during the first half of the evening, said Katie Dean, Cora’s press and marketing director.

The stylist will focus on retro looks and will take requests from both men and women, Dean said.

Red Hook businesses will cater the party with food from Hope & Anchor, the local restaurant producing the event, and spiked punch courtesy of Dry Dock Wine + Spirits.

This is the second year Cora has hosted the prom, which will take place at South Brooklyn Community High School’s gym, with a photo booth and music from DJ Robert Lux.

Tickets are priced at $100 per person or pay-what-you-can, with a suggested minimum of $20.

In true prom tradition, a king or queen will be crowned from a list of “local celebrity prom nominees" that includes Fort Defiance’s St. John Frizell; Sarah Baloch, a teacher at P.S. 15 and Cora; and Reg Flowers, artistic director of Falconworks, who will come as his drag alter-ego, Dropsy, Dean said.

“Whatever your prom dreams are, you can just come and fulfill them,” she said. “Nothing is too out there.”
