ASTORIA — Service on the N/Q line will be suspended in most of Queens this weekend while the MTA does track maintenance to put the brakes on train noise, according to the agency.

The N train will be suspended between Queensboro Plaza and Ditmars Boulevard from 5:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to the MTA, with shuttle buses running along the line instead. The Q train does not run in Queens on weekends.

The repairs will include replacing worn switches and fractured rails, as well as installing lubrication systems.

The MTA has also been installing noise mufflers on all N/Q trains to reduce the sound of the air brakes.

The disruption is due to maintenance work that will help eliminate train noise along the line, according to an MTA spokesman — an issue Astoria residents have complained about previously.

Parents at P.S. 85, which sits next to the N/Q train tracks, held a rally outside the school in December, saying noise from passing trains is interrupting class time and student learning there.

"We are happy to announce that New York City Transit has listened to our concerns about noise at PS 85," Astoria City Councilman Costa Constantinides wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday night.

Spokesman Kevin Ortiz said the MTA had tried to do the maintanence work earlier this winter but had to cancel twice because of bad weather.
