QUEENS — Pasta Del Giorno, an Italian restaurant that had been a fixture on Austin Street for 25 years, has recently closed.

The restaurant, at 70-49 Austin St., went out of business earlier this month, as first reported by Edge of the City.

It joints a number of restaurants which have recently closed in the area after decades in business.

Santa Fe, a steakhouse located on Forest Hills' restaurant row (70th Road), closed in December, and Garcia, a Mexican eatery on Austin Street, closed in October, and will soon be replaced by El Coyote.

"I am sad and concerned that we are losing a lot of businesses,” said Leslie Brown, president of the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce. “But I think a lot of new things will be coming in [to replace them]."

Brown said that the owners of Pasta Del Giorno “didn’t change with the times.”

The restaurant also received a "B" from the Department of Health after the most recent inspection in August last year, according to the department's website.

Pasta Del Giorno also faced competition from a growing number of Italian eateries in the neighborhood, including Tuscan Hills, Portofino Restorante and La Vigna.

The owners could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, an Ann Taylor Factory Store opened on Austin Street last week, replacing an Ann Taylor retail store which closed in January.
