CHINATOWN — A raging fire tore through a popular Chinatown restaurant and dim sum destination early Monday, causing the ceiling to collapse, FDNY officials said.

No one was injured when the first-floor ceiling caved in at Jing Fong Restaurant on Elizabeth Street, between Canal and Bayard streets, just after 2 a.m., FDNY officials said.

Firefighters battling the blaze rushed out of the restaurant when they noticed the structure giving way, officials added.

The fire was not brought under control until 3:20 a.m.

A Jing Fong worker said the cause was a busted pipe, though FDNY officials said that was still under investigation.

“It is what it is,” said the employee, who asked not to be identified. “We just hope to be back up in the next couple of days.”
