JACKSON HEIGHTS — A large apartment in a landmarked post-war co-op that was originally built for the developer of the building is up for sale — and the broker says it's likely the largest space for sale in the neighborhood.

The 1,700-square-foot pad in The Monterey, on 83rd Street near Roosevelt Avenue, features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a den that can be turned into a fourth bedroom as well as a deck and a whopping eight closets.

The space is unlike anything else in the building, or on the market right now, according to Michael Carafagna, of MPC Properties LLC. The apartment is listed at $695,000, with maintenance fees of around $1,300.

"It's the original developer's apartment from 1952, when they put up the building," he said. "He built the grandest space for himself."

The landmarked building, in the Jackson Heights Historic District, was designed by Seelig & Finkelstein and marketed by the RitaFlo Building Corporation, according to a decades-old brochure that touted the building's proximity to local schools and subways.

"The Monterey," the brochure said, "is a distinguished addition to gracious living in the modern manner."

After the developer left the apartment, it was converted into two separate units, Carafagna said.

The current owner restored it to the original configuration in 2008 to create the grandiose space, which has hardwood floors and a 20-foot-by-20-foot living room.

A large kitchen has butcher block counters and a stainless steel fridge.

"The apartment is flooded with sunlight — it's really a dynamic beautiful space," Carafagna said.

"It happens to be renovated top of the line."

The building also features a common space of a cedar deck on top of the garage, providing outdoor space for a small fee in the park-starved neighborhood.

Carafagna said the apartment is expected to sell fast as more people are looking toward Queens to put down roots as prices continue to rise in neighboring Brooklyn. 

"It's going to be rough unless they buy now," he said.

There will be an open house for the apartment from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 37-30 83rd St., Jackson Heights.
