RED HOOK — Art aficionado Jeffrey Deitch has an eye on Red Hook as a possible location for a new gallery in New York.

Deitch, who resigned from his position as director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in 2013, said he’s considering Red Hook for a huge art space but hasn’t made any final decisions yet, according to New York Magazine.

Deitch also has a gallery in SoHo and is looking at other areas of the city, such as the pier at Fourteenth Street on the Hudson.

“Most of them have complications. I am looking at Red Hook, but there are a lot of issues, like can we get a water taxi going? Who could help subsidize that?” Deitch told the magazine.

Red Hook is no stranger to the contemporary art scene. The neighborhood is home to several artist studios as well as Dustin Yellin’s Pioneer Works and Swiss-born artist Urs Fischer’s own studio.
