MANHATTAN — A 42-year-old man was found by his girlfriend lying dead on the blood-smeared floor of his apartment in a Frank Gehry-designed luxury tower in the Financial District, sources said.

The man, whose identity was not released, showed no obvious signs of trauma when he was found in a 23rd-floor apartment in 8 Spruce St., near Nassau Street, about 5:45 p.m., sources and a police spokesman said.

He had been telling friends that he wasn't feeling well lately, a police spokesman said.

"I hadn't heard from him all day, so I had to come find him," the girlfriend told investigators, sources said.

With a spare key, she entered the apartment and found it in disarray, sources said.

Her boyfriend was pronounced dead at the scene and the medical examiner's office will determine his cause of death, according to the NYPD.

"Sadly, I must inform you that one of our residents passed away in his apartment," the building's managment emailed tenants.

"We wish to ensure you that there is no cause for concern regarding the safety of any resident in the building," the email continued.
