Village Halloween Parade Is On After Fundraisers Reach $50K Goal
MANHATTAN — The Village Halloween parade is on.
After this year's iteration of the huge Halloween party was threatened by a funding gap, organizers exceeded their $50,000 funding goal, their page on the crowd-funding website Kickstarter showed Thursday afternoon.
With the fundraising deadline just three days away, Village Halloween Parade Inc. had raised $50,363 as of 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
Jeanne Fleming — artistic director of the event filled with elaborate costumes, floats and "Thriller"-dancing zombies — said she was elated to see the dollar amount at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
"It was a surprise," she said. "We were planning our last-minute strategy and what we were going to do."
Fleming said she expected the parade to be saved by thousands of people giving small amounts, but said fewer people have donated bigger sums.
"It's been more like 800, 900 people giving larger amounts," the 67-year-old Dutchess County resident said.
Nearly 840 people donated money to the organizers, the Kickstarter page showed Thursday afternoon.
Parade organizers wrote on Facebook Wednesday evening that they had raised $46,000.
