COBBLE HILL — Who needs MTV’s Video Music Awards at the Barclays when you can be a VIP at a music-awards-themed show on Smith Street?

NU Hotel Brooklyn at 85 Smith St. will be celebrating the VMAs in style with a music-inspired art show and live viewing of the awards.

Five artists will be exhibiting their original work in celebration of the awards, which will be hosted, for the first time, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

From musicians to graphic artists and video directors, the artists were chosen because of their backgrounds in the music industry, said Adam Suerte, founder of Urban Folk Art Gallery, who is curating the art show.

NUsic+Art, to be held Aug. 25 at 6:00 p.m., will feature 20 to 30 pieces of art, some of which are music-related, at Misdemeanor, NU Hotel’s lobby bar and lounge, at 85 Smith St.

“The show is directly inspired by music,” said Suerte, whose work will also be exhibited along with Chris Cycle, Keo Xmen (Blake Lethem), Pete Conlon and Jason Mitchell.

At 9:00 p.m., a live viewing party of the international music show will begin, which will feature performances by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga.

Along with the gallery opening, NU Hotel will be posting VMA-inspired playlists with nominated songs and Brooklyn-based musicians on their social media pages leading up to the awards.

“We wish we could have the VMAs in our lobby, but that’s just not feasible.  And since we couldn’t get tickets ourselves, we thought we’d have a party of our own to celebrate this momentous occasion,” said Javier Egipciaco general manager of NU Hotel, in a statement.

“Aside from Barclays Center itself, NUsic + Art is going to be the best place to celebrate the VMAs on August 25.”

NUsic + Art is open to the public. Guests can R.S.V.P at events@independentcollection.com by Aug. 21.
