Fashion Chain 'Splendid' Signs Lease on Court Street Building

COBBLE HILL — Another national retailer is setting up shop on Court Street, adding to the neighborhood’s burgeoning shopping business.

Splendid, an LA-based clothing house with 22 countrywide locations will open its first Brooklyn outpost in the neighborhood, according to a spokeswoman for the company.

The fashion shop signed a long-term lease for a 1,100 square-foot ground floor space at 142 Court St., The Real Deal first reported.

Splendid, founded in 2002 selling apparel for men, women and children, plans to open its in September.

"The new Splendid store in Cobble Hill will offer the line’s colorful, comfortable collections for women, men, kids and babies... in an innovative, light-filled environment as happy as the brand itself," the spokeswoman said, in an email.

"The store’s design stays true Splendid's Southern California beachy roots with natural wood fixtures and a daybed for daydreaming; plus a wall of live plants brings an outdoor element to the space," she added.

In June, fashion giant J.Crew signed a 10-year net lease to take over 2,349 square feet at 151 Court St., just across the street from Splendid’s new space.

“Our team is on the phone daily with national retail tenants seeking our advice as to where and what to do to penetrate Cobble Hill,” Evan Schuckman of Schuckman Realty, who is representing both the tenant and building owner in the Splendid signing, reportedly said.

Schuckman also told the Real Deal that Splendid’s rent would be more than $100 per square foot.

Splendid did not wish to comment on the terms of the lease.
