CLINTON HILL — Time is running out for Myrtle Avenue's post office.

The new owners of 524 Myrtle Ave. will not be renewing Pratt Station Post Office's lease leaving the only USPS facility in the neighborhood scrambling to find a new home.

But local politicians have assured residents that they have nothing to worry about.

"It is my position that the Post Office must relocate in the immediate vicinity and without interruption of services," Rep. Hakeem Jeffries wrote in a letter to his constituents adding. "The mail service and delivery needs of residents are a top priority."

The landlord further requested that the Post Office vacate the space prior their lease expiration.

The Post Office is not legally obligated to leave before the end of the lease in May 2014 but is actively searching for a new location within a five-block radius, according to a spokesman for Jeffries.

524 Myrtle Ave. was acquired by Silverstone Development Group in December of last year. A mixed-use building will be developed in its place and details on the project are still in the planning stages.

Building landlords, Silverstone Development Group, declined to comment on why the Post Office's lease will not be renewed.
