NEW YORK CITY — There were few fireworks during the first head-to-head event between leading mayoral candidates City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former Congressman Anthony Weiner.

Quinn and Weiner, who recent polls have separated by only five points with Quinn leading,  were joined by Sal Albanese, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Comptroller John Liu, Rev. Erick Salgado and Bill Thompson at the Brookyln's Manhattan Beach Jewish Center in a debate hosted by the Jewish Press.

Candidates discussed topics including NYPD tactics, city finances and Mayor Michael Bloomberg's resistance during contract disputes with municipal unions, which most candidates disapproved of.

Weiner said, "He wasn't supposed to have this term, so I just want him to leave without breaking anything."

The candidates all said they supported the NYPD's controversial surveillance tactic of placing informants in local mosques, which prompted a brief argument in which Albanese accused Thompson of flip-flopping on the issue.

"Go back and look at the transcript, Sal," Thompson shot back before the moderator cut him off. "Pay attention, Sal."
