MIDTOWN — A pair of upscale thieves posing as customers at a Madison Avene Porsche Design store made off with a watch worth a reported $170,000 from a Midtown luxury store Wednesday afternoon, sources said.

A casually-dressed man and woman walked into the shop at 624 Madison Ave. about 4:30 p.m., the NYPD said. The woman asked to look at merchandise being shown on the bottom level of a display case. As a clerk bent down to retrieve the item, the male suspect leaned across the top of the display case and snatched the watch from inside, cops said.

The watch was valued at $170,000 the New York Post reported. The NYPD's press office said it could not confirm how much the watch was worth. A manager at the Porsche Design store declined to comment.

No one was injured in the incident, police said. Police released surveillance images of the suspects, which show the woman wearing a gray sweater and dark pants, and the man wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477). Members of the public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting tips to CRIMES (274637) then entering TIP577.
