EAST NEW YORK — A landlord fatally shot his tenant during a fight at a Shepherd Avenue home Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

A call of an assault brought emergency crews to the 566 Shepherd Ave. address just after 1 p.m., fire officials said. When responders arrived, they found the victim, Luis Martinez, 51, shot in the chest and dead at the scene, police said.

The shooter, Philip Estevez, 63, was taken into police custody Sunday afternoon and was charged with murder, cops said.

Police confirmed that the incident was the result of a landlord-tenant dispute. The man in custody was the building's landlord and the victim was a tenant who had pulled a gun on him after the two, who lived together, got into a fight over the rent, according to reports.
