WILLIAMSBURG — A woman was injured as a fast-moving fire tore through the second floor of a Maujer Street home early Thursday morning, an FDNY spokesman said.

The blaze broke out about 9:30 a.m. within 77 Maujer St., near Lorimer Street, and quickly escalated to a second alarm, the spokesman said.

The fire was mostly contained to the building's second floor but scorched parts of the third floor as well, according to the FDNY.

One woman was taken to Woodhull Medical Center with minor injuries, the FDNY spokesman said.

The blaze was under control by about 10 a.m., the spokesman added.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said the fire spread quickly before firefighters were able to tame it.

"It was roaring pretty good before it got under control,” the neighbor said. “Blew out two windows, tore through two floors of the house."

The neighbor added that the woman who was hospitalized was one of the building’s residents who was inside when the fire started, but that her condition wasn’t serious.

"She got banged up a little bit,” he said. “They lost a lot of belongings, and they're going to have a lot of cleaning up, a lot of boarding up to do. But everybody's going to be alright."

Neither fire officials nor witnesses could immediately identify the cause of the fire.
