PARK SLOPE — Students at the P.S. 10 Magnet School in Park Slope took to the stage to perform a dance in honor of City Councilwoman Sara Gonzalez, recognizing her for helping bring $40,000 in arts funding to the school.

Gonzalez, whose council district includes Sunset Park, Red Hook, Gowanus, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park and parts of Park Slope and Bay Ridge, helped bring a National Dance Institute after-school program to P.S. 10 by winning a $20,000 Cultural After-School Adventure award.

She also secured another $20,000 in City Council funds to support a Metropolitan Opera Guild in-class program at the school.

She was thanked at a special assembly Wednesday.

"All of us at National Dance Institute are so incredibly excited to be a part of the learning community at P.S. 10," National Dance Institute development manager Graig Donnelly said in a statement. "We are several weeks into the program now, taking place on Wednesday afternoons, and the response from the school has already been tremendously positive."

Gonzalez's office said the councilwoman is working to fund bike racks, tree guards and full renovations of the school's restrooms.

On Feb. 13, a mariachi band and student ballerinas will honor her at another school, P.S. 503 in Sunset Park, as part of a ceremony recognizing the $50,000 in grants she helped raise its arts programs.

"Our students need and deserve these enrichment programs to help them succeed," P.S. 503 PTA president Bob Hudock said. "We are deeply grateful."
