Pedestrian Killed Crossing East Tremont Avenue

BRONX — A 55-year-old man was fatally struck while attempting to cross East Tremont Avenue at Mapes Avenue, shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Police arriving on the scene discovered the victim lying on the ground unconscious with severe body trauma. He was rushed to St. Barnabus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 31-year-old driver of the red 1995 Honda Accord that killed the pedestrian was also taken to St. Barnabus Hospital, where he received treatment for a laceration on his head.

According to police reports, the vehicle had been traveling westbound on East Tremont Avenue when it struck the man.

A police investigation is ongoing.
