Young Woman Killed in Bronx Hit-and-Run
UNIONPORT — A 22-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run Saturday on Westchester Avenue in the Bronx, police said.
Police resonding to calls of a pedestrian struck at 6:04 a.m. found Amanda Garcia, 22, of Pleasantville, N.Y., lying on the street near Olmstead Avenue, unconscious and unresponsive. She was later determined to be dead at the scene by emergency medical rescuers.
On further investigation, police found that the woman had been struck by a black Nissan Altima as she was crossing Westchester Avenue north to south. Police said the Altima was a 2006 to 2009 model, and fled the scene southbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway.
Police continued to investigate the incident on Sunday afternoon.
