ELM PARK — A 21-year-old Staten Island man was killed Saturday morning when his Honda struck a lamppost, killing him.

Jose Luis Arlequin, 21, was blocks from his John Street home when he lost control of the vehicle at 3:00 a.m. at the intersection of Richmond Terrace and Sharpe Avenue, police said.

Police responding to a call reporting the vehicle accident found Arlequin in his 1996 grey Honda, suffering from serious trauma to his body. He was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center and declared dead upon arrival.

On later investigation, police determined Arlequin was traveling westbound on Richmond Terrace when he lost control of the car and struck the light pole. No criminality was suspected, but an investigation was ongoing, police said.
