UPPER WEST SIDE — One person was injured Monday morning in a fire that started in an Upper West Side apartment, fire officials said.
The FDNY responded to a 10 a.m. call about a fire at 101 W. 85th St. near Columbus Avenue, a fire department spokesman said.
The building's superintendent said the blaze started when a bed caught fire in an unidentified woman's sixth-floor apartment.
"She said that she saw smoke in her apartment, but didn't know what happened," said the superintendent, who asked not to be identified. "Her face was black. I think she was trying to put the smoke out."
The fire was under control by 10:45 a.m., and one unidentified person was sent to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, the FDNY spokesman said.
