NEW YORK CITY — A police officer and decorated former Marine was arrested early Monday morning, after driving drunk and becoming involved in an accident, police said.

Ismile Althaibani, 29, was charged with driving while intoxicated about 3 a.m. Monday in Queens, after being taken to an unidentified hospital and refusing to take a breath test, an NYPD spokesman said.

Police did not immediately have information about the accident that led to Althaibani's arrest.

Althaibani, who received a Purple Heart in 2004 after a roadside explosion in Iraq shattered his left foot, according to the New York Times, was not on duty at the time of the incident, according to police.

The arrest marks the second case of police drunk driving in three days.

Early Saturday morning, Felix Recio, 32, who in August had his foot run over by socialite Julien Chabbott, 28, according to reports, was arrested for driving drunk in Queens.
