WILLIAMSBURG — Nearly two weeks after the primary election, a recount is being held for Williamsburg's 50th District Leader, incumbent Lincoln Restler announced yesterday on his campaign page.

The heated race between Restler and Community Board One chair Chris Olechowski is so close that a hand count is necessary, Restler's page notes. Restler has received 31 fewer votes than Olechowski, according to the latest machine count, Restler says.

"The margin of election is so small," he says of the 12,000-vote race,"that State law mandates a hand recount of every ballot before the election result is final."

Neither politician responded immediately to calls and emails requesting comment.
