DOWNTOWN — A new Greek restaurant has opened in lower Manhattan.
GRK Fresh Greek, an eatery offering an assortment of plain yogurts, yeeros, salads and other side dishes for those looking to grab lunch for less than $11.00, opened Wednesday at 111 Fulton St.
“We’re trying to bring something different to New York with the authentic style gyro,” said Christopher Potter, the company’s director of strategic development.
“We brought a lot of people in directly from Greece in order to help prepare and train the staff,” he said. “We’re happy to start out downtown and looking to go beyond here shortly.”
Michael Liristis, director of operations, said that GRK Fresh Greek expects to open two new locations — one in SoHo and one in Chelsea — by the end of the year.
“We fly all our yogurt in from Greece,” he said, noting that the company does business with farmers from the northern part of the country near Macedonia.
Sheila Pashchall, 50, of Prospect Heights, said she took a trip to Greece last year, and the chicken pita yeero for $6.89 from the establishment tastes just like the fare she ate overseas.
“As soon as I tried it today I called my friend who I went on the trip with and said, ‘I’m going to meet you over here next week,’” Pashchall said.
“I’m a foodie and this is authentic, fresh, light and filling. It is juicy and plentiful and the price is right.”
