KEW GARDENS — A man crossing Grand Central Parkway was struck and killed by a driver headed westbound on the major highway, police said.
The unidentified victim, whose age was not released, had been crossing the roadway on foot at 10:50 p.m., when the driver of a 2010 Audi sedan struck the man near Exit 15, police said.
The man was found unconscious and unresponsive, with severe trauma to his body, and was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
It was not immediately clear to police why the man had been crossing the highway on foot, a police spokesman said. Police said no criminality was suspected on Saturday, but that an investigation was ongoing.
