MIDTOWN — A man died after jumping from Fifth Avenue's luxury Peninsula Hotel Thursday, a police spokesman said.

David Martinez, 40, of Coral Gables, Florida, jumped at 8:55 a.m. outside the building at 700 Fifth Avenue and 55th Street, police sources said.

He landed on a parked SUV, and a chauffeur sitting in the Cadillac Escalade told the NY Post he was just starting to eat his breakfast waiting for a client outside of the building, when the man landed on his vehicle.

Hotel workers told police Martinez had climbed to the 22nd floor by using the hotel's stairwell, police said.

Martinez's family told investigators he had been depressed and had not been taking his medications.

A body covered in a sheet was seen on the north sidewalk of West 55th Street, and police closed a section of West 55th Street Thursday morning.

Earlier in the day, a man jumped from a Chinatown building in a suspected suicide at 7:15 a.m., police said.
