Man Injured in Trench Collapse on Victory Boulevard

A man was seriously injured when a trench collapsed on Staten Island on June 21, 2012

STATEN ISLAND — A man was seriously injured and went into cardiac arrest Thursday morning after a trench collapsed near Freshkills Park in Travis, officials said.

The victim was hurt when the trench at Victory Boulevard and Travis Avenue caved in just after 10:30 a.m., the FDNY said.

Paramedics were still treating the man, who has not been identified, at the scene 30 minutes after the initial 911 call, an FDNY spokesman said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the trench to collapse.
