Woman Attacked with Hammer in East Village, Police Say

A woman was struck in the head with a hammer on East Third Street Thursday, June 7, 2012, police said

EAST VILLAGE — A woman was attacked with a hammer Thursday morning on a tree-lined East Village block, authorities said.

The victim, 39, was struck in the head with the hammer shortly after 7 a.m. at 55 E. Third St., near Second Avenue, according to the NYPD.

She was transported to Bellevue Hospital Center in stable condition, police said.

There have been no arrests, police said.
