STATEN ISLAND — Select Buses will soon be making their way across the Verrazano Bridge.

The S79 bus, which runs on Hylan Boulevard from the Staten Island Mall to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, will be the fourth bus to be turned into Select Bus Service, the MTA said.

The Select Bus System aims to lower travel time for riders by cutting out stops and creating designated bus lanes along routes, the MTA said.

The MTA expects the service to cut travel time between the Staten Island Mall and Bay Ridge by 20 percent when it's rolled out in September.

However, unlike other SBS buses already in the Bronx and Manhattan, the S79 SBS will not have off-board fare collection because boarding times are already low, the MTA said.

The S79 local service will stop when the SBS rolls out, but the S59 along Richmond Avenue and the S78 on Hylan Boulevard will continue to make local stops, the MTA said.
