COLUMBUS CIRCLE — Swedish discount fashion retailer H&M will open this fall at the Shops at Columbus Circle, according to published reports.
Known for trendy togs at rock bottom prices, H&M will open in part of the space formerly occupied by a Borders bookstore, which closed in 2011. Part of the space was leased to preppy clothing purveyor C. Wonder, which is also slated to open this fall.
The Time Warner Center location will be H&M's first foray into the Upper West Side, which is fast becoming a destination for deal-hungry shoppers. The low-cost clothing store Century 21 opened in Sept. 2011 at West 66th and Broadway, replacing a Barnes & Noble. Discount footwear seller DSW is set to open this summer in the former Filene's Basement space at West 79th Street and Broadway.
