SUNNYSIDE — An 18-month-old boy was seriously injured after falling from a second-story patio of a Sunnyside home Thursday night, fire officials said.

According to the Fire Department, the accident happened around 8:24 p.m. in the back of the house on 43rd Street, near Skillman Avenue.

The boy had walked through a partially-open screen door onto a balcony, climbed over a 3-foot fence and fell onto a concrete stoop below, the Daily News reported.

The paper said that the boy’s mother was home when the accident happened.

According to the fire department, the child suffered massive head trauma, went into traumatic arrest and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

No criminality was suspected, police said.
