CITY HALL — New Yorkers will soon be able to watch City Council hearings from the comfort of their own homes, thanks to a new broadcasting initiative announced Friday.

The City Council will begin showing its meetings live online and on the government television station, NYC gov, starting May 1, the Council said.

The Council's hearing rooms at 250 Broadway are already equipped for video, and the Council's main chambers in City Hall will be ready for live broadcasts within the next three to four months.

New York will be the largest city to broadcast its legislative hearings, officials said.
