PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS — A 56-year-old man was struck and critically injured by an ambulette van on Clarkson Avenue Thursday morning, authorities said.

The victim was walking against the light near Nostrand Avenue about 11:30 a.m. when the van, travelling eastbound on Clarkson Avenue, slammed into him, police said.

Paramedics raced to the scene to transport him to Kings County Hospital, FDNY officials said.

Police — after initially declaring that the victim had died — said Thursday evening that he was in critical condition.

The driver of the van remained at the scene, police said. He refused to talk about the accident.

The ambulette company, Courtesy Transportation, declined comment.
